That sucks, another Fortin failure, I feel sorry for anyone else that has them. Time to go in with the 02-04 gears

What were you doing when it went out. I'm still on my original trany. I'm sure I'm not as hard on mine as you are on yours, but every bit of info helps.

Gary if you have the time get the gears and the forks cryo-treated. Its a good investment!!!

Wow - didnt you just install the new tranny ? Did ya do the full 02 conversion or change the broken 01 parts with Fortin replacement parts and leave the other original 01 parts? Do the Fortin gears have 3 dogs or 4 ?

I feel your pain !

The more I read this stuff the more I lean towards an 02 gearset when I do mine this feb/march. My stock 01 gears are holding up fine to the 686 for now but I think I'm on borrowed time. Since you're in it again Gary are you going to install a carrillo rod too? It's on my shopping list since I'll be in there anyhow. I figure if I have to split the case it's gonna get the cases bored for a future 105mm piston, install a carrillo rod and 02 gearset.

Man that sucks. Sorry about your bad luck with the Fortins.

I agree with what Ernie says, for the cost of cryo treating it is good for at least a little peace mind. You might as well send the clutch basket and rod too.

Straky you better start saving, its inevitable that it will scatter.
