Banshee Modifications
#1
I would like to get a bit more power out of my 1999 Banshee w/o spending tons of money and giving up good realiability. Here is what I know about my bike:
1999 Banshee
FMF Gold Series Fatty Pipes
Cool Heads
V-Force Reeds
Slightly modified air box
K&N Air Filter
Outerwear Pre-Filter
White Brothers Boost Bottle
Cut Rev-Limiter
Could someone make some suggestions on what I might do to compete better with the new YFZ's w/o spending a fortune?
Thanks
David

Yes, BigScary is on the right track, Porting would help you out alot and advancing the timing about 4 or 5 degrees. When porting also get the upper case ported to match the cylinders, this also helps a great deal.

From the experience's I've had riding/racing my friends YFZ, you're gonna need some porting. You could try shaving the head, and running race gas, but I don't think it will be enough. A piped Banshee simply can't catch a well tuned piped YFZ. The YFZ's holeshot ability is a killer.

Porting will make a huge difference especially if you get rid of those mid range pipes and get something more top end, toomey's t5's are great or if you want to go really go all out with the top end go with CPI's, but bare in mind that your powerband will shift way up with the CPI's which may or may not be a good thing depending on your type of riding,

Port work is definitely the next thing to do. What domes are you running in the cool head? Biggest problem with getting a banshee to be competitive with the other sport bikes is not power, but getting the power to the ground instead of tearing the ground up. Where the 4 strokes power is more even mannered and the shee wants to scream like crazy. But port work, single carb, and lightened flywheel I enjoyed quite a bit on mine. Makes the banshee much more rideable in trails and tight stuff than it used to.

Banshee18267, you have all those upgrades and, can't beat the YFZ's? I assume your talking about dragging? What do the YFZ's have done that your being beat? I'd look a little more into tuning/make sure your running perfect. Have you redone your pistons and, rings on that 5 year old Banshee??
You should be beating the stock YZF's and, i'd say still be right with if not edging to the piped ones on the dragstrip. My friend has the same setup except he has the T5's and, is a constant front runner against the YZF's. When they dip into the modded cams it is a different story.
