Stage1 or, Stage 2 cam?
#11
My main point was to get answers on how much improvement the cams make and, what is the diff between the S1 and, S2. Not what exactly i'll need to beat X+Y+Z. I was amazed at the difference a full pipe and, proflow setup made over stock and, wanted to look into the next easiest thing. "I do not want to bore and, stroke and, make it unreliable!!!!"
4 friends (all Brothers) have "He/Shee's" and, they are Ported and, polished, Toomey T5'd, Clamp on K&N, w/ bigger carbs, V force Reeds, higher compression domes running 110 octane. I don't need to beat them, just get close (sick of hearing smack). In a 300ft sand drag they'd beat my stock Raptor by 8-10 bikes (guess) now the pipe woke it up alot but, i'm asuming i'd need a little more. I like running 93 and, not having to worry about anything but riding. I want a fun quad not a drag only and, rebuild it every week quad.

running with guys and gals set up like those banshee's you need a 11:1 stock bore (because you dont won't to bore the cyl) piston and a Stage II cam with springs. This combo works good and even better if you port the head but It's not a Must. This should put you really close to these guy's and you might even surprise them with the right gearing combo.

I run a Craycraft mild 686 and i can handle 90% of tha banshees i came across at Glamis for halloween, modded to real modded it 's all about the tunning and that is the bottom line,i have my 686 to the point that you have to be racing on banshee hill with those drag bike for me to get imbarressed..
I have it set up real good and i like it alot....i cant wait to go the stage 2 and 12:1 ,but will it be faster.

To directly address your questions, believe it or not there's not much point in just putting in the cam. Stage 1 will be the best for bottom end to mid range. The stage 2 is a mid-top end cam with lots of rev on top. Stage 2 will require more work as you need to install valve springs. I highly doubt dropping in a stage 1 with no internal mods will do you much good. A four stroke motor requires more work to get the power out of it than a two stroke like the Banshee. With a stage 1 and no internal work the smack talk will get worse as they notice that even with engine work they still beat you. The 686 approach might just make them stand up and take notice of your rappy and eat a little crow.

I have the Stage 1 with a 11-1 stock bore Piston, Full pipe and Pro flow and I can easily beat a piped Raptor no problem. It is real nice, but I am already looking for more. I am thinking this winter I may do a 686 Stage 2 and Craycraft port. Got a buddy with a YFZ and brothers with an LT500 and a Stage 2 DS. I'd really like to throw a little surprise at them in the spring...lol We are all pretty close right now the only difference between them is the YFZ is probably the fastest out of the hole but other than that they are all very close.
