What is the difference and, what do you need to do to put one in? Any other things you need? Can I do it myself?

What Kind of performance gains can you expect from either on a piped and, proflow'd Raptor?

I'm trying to catch up w/ my friends "Worked" Banshee's. I want to get as much as i can without boring it and, getting to crazy!

You'll need to pull the head and put in different valve springs for the stage 2, the stage 1 you use your stock springs. Unless you port the head and up the compression I would use the stage 1.

 

So will i notice a big difference w/ a stage 1 cam?

 

I was going to do the same thing as you. Just a drop in cam and let her rip. I however got a wild streak and decide to go ahead and bore it. I went with a 686 as a simple bore is $50ish regardless of whether it was a first over or a 102mm. A piston cost me about $150 or so and I went with the 12:1 je. Add a stage 2 hotcam and if you can afford it, port it. HUGE gains. If you've got to wrench on it spend a couple extra bucks and do it right! You wouldnt believe the difference between a 686 and a stock machine. It's like comparing a Warrior to a Raptor. If your bud's got a worked over shee it's your only hope. It's another $300ish and a bunch of work but you're gonna tear into it anyhow stage 2 686 will deliver the shee stompin you're lookin for. Yes you can do it yourself. I did my work myself even though it seemed very difficult by looking at it. Dont be afraid of the external oil lines and such as it's really a simple motor to work on. The stage 1 is the best bet for you if you're not going into that motor but I'd highly reccomend the stage 2 and a hi comp piston.

So I will get gains out of a Stage 1 cam? What would happen if I just put a stage 2 in? I may port it as well.. what does it cost to port the head?? WHois a good place to have do it?

Well, what does the "worked" banshee have? There is only so far you can go with a 4-stroke compared to a 2-stroke. If he is Piped, reeds, intake, port and polish. Simply the stage 1 cam wont take him. a 686 with 11:1 and stage 2 will. If he is a stroker with all the above + high compression and a few more goodies, then don't bother trying to catch him.
