hahahaha...i quess i can't stay away from first year models. you caught me. lol
dude, i love it. my wife rolled our rodeo. we could'nt believe what our insurance company paid out on it. anyways it afforded us the opportunity to make a step up in vehicles. i got the 03 limited...fully stinking loaded. with the surround sound/GPS (so f'n sweet) and the hydraulic suspension and V8
things i love most:
-the V8 with AWD (drives like a caddy pulls like a truck). this thing always hooks up...never spins. i can pull out onto main routes in the rain...and it never spins...i just goes.
-the GPS: awesome tool. when my buddies take me to their favorite riding areas. they usually try to take me through a route that they know i'll get lost...so i can't return on my own with more friends. well now i just wait til i get there and hit the POI button (point of interest). and now there favorite oasis is mine! All Mine! hahahahahahahaha (evil laughter)
-the height Control (hydraulics). loading and unloading the trailor is a joy now. i simply set the height control to low. back up to trailor to the hitch...and set to normal. it then rises and trailor is hooked up. Sweeeet.
-Ergonomics: this thing was built with the quality of any lexus vehicle. there are alot of little neat things i could go on and on about.
go for it...the ride to the trails is as fun as the ride in the trails now. Toyota blew me away with the workmanship so much. we went back and bought the wife a highlander limited. also with AWD.
i'll never drive another vehicle without AWD. just make sure you get the trailoring package. they give you bigger tranny lines and a radiator Etc. they don't just add a hitch and call it a package.

Kevin...you don't have time to buy a new car... you have to race Cycleland on Sunday...last race for about a month
I have completed my re-birth and am born-again Honda...I should make it to the race on my 400ex
As far as 1st year problems with the TRX...I'll find them and let you all know....seems I'm always in front of the standard curve

honda is pretty good about building reliable quads from the start! now being as fast as the others is another thing! the old 400ex is by far the most reliable and you can really wake them up with the 426 or 440 kit! but being the fastest i dont think is there only intention! i think yamaha tries to be the fastest and worries about the first year of production problems the next year! thats just my 2 cents!!!! even being a die hard Yamaha fan!

The Yamaha will be a full 450cc
Which is better, is all in the rider and weather or not your big enough to start the Honda.
Me, I don't like anything stock but I like reliability alot.
TRX450R- 450cc stock modded full 500cc
YFZ450 - 440cc stock modded full 470cc
I'll take the extra 30cc and the Honda reliability.
The test will between these two new big dogs will be out in the mag's in Feb or March.
Maybe we should add NOS just for fun also. lol

Honda already said they really watered it down.. So how can you expect it to be as fast when the dirt bikes are about equal and all yamaha did was move the cam one tooth and take a notch off the compression. Honda used a differently designed piston, a different "more torquey" cam, etc...

Honda made it reliable just like there other bikes.
Yes, it is built much different than the CRF but a quad is much bigger and more demanding over time.
All new sport quads are very fast and about even it has alot to do with rider skill.
Top speed is limited to about 75mph but simple gear changes can quickly solve that so who cares about top end speed.
How many people who actually buy a YFZ or a new R do you think will actually keep it stock? If you can afford the quad you can afford to mod it.
Buy the HRC power up kit (which afew dealers are throwing in with the purchase of the quad)
Bore it 5mm cause you can and add a high compression piston. Full 500cc
It has a longer stroke that the CRF guys will be wanting so they can get there bikes over 480cc
The YFZ you can jet, bore, pipe, breath, and adjust the timing but you can only go out to 470cc
No replacement for displacement.
