I forgot something. If the spark plug is tanish/brownish the jetting is good.

Thanks for your help guys. Also is there anyway if I can tell an engine on a blaster is going to need to be rebuilt soon. Will the engine give any signs? Noise, sounds, rattles?

when you do re-jet do you have to tear the carb apart right?

Take the quad to your local dealer / mechanic. Have them perform a compression check on the engine. That will tell you if the engine will need a re-build soon.

As for jetting. . . Combustion is just like fire, you need three things: 1. Fuel, 2. Air, 3. Heat (Compression)

Think of a camp fire for a moment. . .
When you first start it there is very little heat so it doesn't want to get going. We add paper or gas to create a lot of heat to start our wood fire burning.
As the fire get's going, there is usually a lot of smoke in the beginning. If you have too much fuel you get smoke (sooting). As the wood burns and you get coals you now have plenty of heat and you are a little low on fuel. Too much air and the fire is real hot. This is what we call a lean condition in an engine and it can cause engine damage.

You will also hear the term "FAT" just think of this as a fire that is fat with wood. It has too much wood (fuel) and not enough air is getting to the fire so, the wood smokes (which is the soot you will see on your spark-plug.)

Jetting a bike just means getting the proper mix of air and fuel.

Class dismissed!
