Default 27" MudLites on a 2001 Kodiak?

I have a buddy that has a 2001 Kodiak. He just purchased some 27” MudLites off Ebay. He is not sure what size wheel spacer he needs. Can someone that has this setup tell me what was necessary to get them to fit the front (stock rims)? He went with the 27X10 for the front and the 27X12 in the rear. How bad is this going to make his take off in high gear?

I'm not sure, but another option to the spacers might be a 1" lift.
