i recently got my 1998 yamaha blaster so i went searching for some mods...1 of them was to take the lid off your air box so i did that and it made it louder and a bit faster with more power..but after a while i felt a power loss...you have to wind out 5th gear b4 it has any power in 6th like it will just bog in 6th until u hit powerband..do any of you have any suggestions..could it be the carb settings since its getting more air.

Well first of all you shouldn't have done that, and Second you should always rejet after mods like this. I recommend a FMF PowerUp Jet Kit to clear it up.

 

you took your air lid off but you didn't rejet. ok, so now you have to much air and too little fuel, your running lean. nothing that can't be fixed, if you want to get full power gains out of the air box removal, buy a jet kit. if you cheaply want to fix this problem, put a bigger main jet in it.

I dont think you should take your air lid off.
I think you should get a pipe and silencer , reeds , reed spacer, k&n air filter first !!!! then buy a jet kit , there only around $19.00
the last thing you want to do is take your air lid off after you have modded your bike that way you can correctly jet your bike.

 

you can take your lid off with no other mods as long as you jet it. you don't have to have a pipe. sure, you will have to re jet, again after you put a pipe on it but you can still jet to run with the lid off. go to www.vitosperformance.net. buy the blaster jet kit, it's 25$
