I'm kind of leaning that way myself. I need to get off my butt and send it in and have it looked at.

Firefly is dead on ! JE has problems I have seen 3 JE raptor pistons the first split the opposite of the wristpin the second 2 were the same as in the pics and each one has had differnt machining on the wristpin quarter or skirt and longer pin and now the snaps are even further out for the longest yet .
and they havent replaced a single one .
Does anyone else make pistons for the rappy BB

I wonder if any of the old rod failures we seen on here could have been the piston and not the rod. (taking the rod out)

Wiseco also makes raptor pistons (but not in as many flavors)

I just got a call from Brian at JE about the piston and I just sent it off Friday. A really nice guy and very informative. Anyway he feels the main reason for failure was detonation which could have also been creating a bad harmonics. The bad harmonics could also be partially to blame for rod gaulling and failures. Unfortunately I threw out the rings, spark plug and wrist pin before I talked to him prior to sending it in, with those parts to look at he could have given me a little better assessment.

I am getting ready to do a 686 in my Raptor, should I look into something other then JE for the piston??? Does Wiseco make a 102mm raptor piston? I was pretty set on 11-1 102mm JE piston, but this post has me second guessing that....

You don't realy expect him to be honest with you do you? I still have all my broken parts, includeing my "holy piston" pin and rings. I think I'm going to get me a glass case to display all the broken parts I've replaced.

Well when I get the piston back I'm going to send it to Ross for another opinion, but I don't know how unbiased their opinion will be either since they're not exactly big fans of JE.

Rapridr I wouldn't get a Wiseco I would still go with a JE over one of their pistons.

I would have to agree with Gary, we run JE 102mm at 12.6:1 on pump gas. I have had Wiseco piston's (our 324gram design stock car pistons) crack along the valve relief, a larger radius fixed the problem, but have never had a problem with JE.
How much timing was being run with this piston? Here is a video of one that went together in the spring and has been pounded since (12.6:1)

The timing has never been touched.
