Default Question on Shifting 2000 Big Bear

O.k. here's the deal I'm helping my girlfriends family buy an ATV for her dad for christmas. I've been looking all over trying to help them out and I found an '00 BB with plow for a really reasonable price. I went and looked at it and drove it today and I would have bought it on the spot except for the fact that it's difficult to get it to shift from reverse to neutral. What I'm asking is this common on this model? It seems to shift through all the other gears fine so I'm left to wonder if Yamaha didnt cut the dogs on the reverse gear quite right and thats why it's hard shifting or is there some sort of adjustment in the shifting linkage I can do.

He's an older guy and has had both knees replaced and if I have problems shifting it on my own I know for sure he will so I want to get him something easy to ride.

Thanks guys!

Look for something else, buy him a automatic tranny. He will enjoy that a lot more when plowing and when he is pleasure riding it will be a lot easier. I know, I had my knee replaced and it bothers me once in awhile. That's why I went to a auto on the one I just bought.
