Banshee or Raptor ..
#22
I have a Raptor and a Banshee and I agree with a couple of the previous posts. In a nut shell If you "only" run wide open areas, desert or dunes Etc the Banshee would be the choice. It can be ridden on dirt, but that's where it's best suited. Typically if the dirts dry it just tends to spins the poo out of the tires. For everthing else a 4 stroke is better suited (good all around). The YFZ was also noted in a couple of posts. If money isn't an option, I'd consider it instead of a Raptor. In stock form It's a much better handling ATV than the Raptor with nearly the same power. I also have a YFZ, and too me it's the only 4 stroke that I've ridden so far that would make me consider giving up my Banshee.

Banshee and Raptor are both Awesome Bikes. They are about the same Stock Vs Stock. Banshee is alot easier to gate off the line but when the Raptor hits 2nd and 3rd it will catch and pass the Banshee. Top speed are about the same. Raptor better in the closer stuff Banshee better in the wide open stuff. Raptor Looks better I think but you might not. Yamaha is the only way to go but if I were you and you got some money I would look into the YFZ450. It can accel fast as Hell and its got all the new technology. Raptor or Banshee Depends on 2 Stroke or 4 Stroke Fan.

You rappy owners are too much. Such a touchy bunch. If you need high comp pistons, ported heads, cam mods and a full pipe system in order to beat my stock 04' Baja X with only a +1 front sprocket and a K&N, what does that say about your mighty 660R? You already had more cc's than me and couldn't beat me stock. You added a full exhaust system and jets and still wouldn't pass me. You know what, let me get some mods too. That would really make you feel like you wasted your money. I've been to the drags. I beat all of the rappy's, v-forces, cannondales, 250R's. I only lost to a RWR stage 3 DS, and two drag banshees that were fully modded and running alky. All with my stock class machine. Alot of those machines were purpose built grass drag quads. I still doubt that unless you have a big bore kit will you outrun me. My DS has 48hp stock compared to the rappy's 35.5hp. These 04's are no joke when compared to earlier model DS's. Go to the bomb site and ask around about the new DS's. They will and do walk away from 03' and older models. I get better races from YFZ 450's, sad isn't it. I don't dislike rappy's in the least bit, it is just that after looking around for a new sport machine I believe that The DS is the best machine on the market for non- MX riding. If I were an MX racer, I would have to go with the YFZ.

Well, I'll say the DS is faster stock than a rappy. Piped vs Piped they're pretty equal. I havent seen an 04 Baja X but in any case it definitely wont outrun me. Also your statements implying you take built up banshees and only the Alky ones get you is horsecrap. You must drag some poorly built or tuned machines. My 686 wont take big bore Banshees or drag machines and it'll certainly stomp the heck out of any stock DS '04 or any other. The other thing you gotta remember is even the new DS is still too danged big to fit down many trails.

I live in the north east, all of our trails are narrow and I have never had a problem fitting anywhere. With the fender placement on the DS you can judge your machine better. The 04' is narrower than previous years. With no mods but a sprocket change I am pulling 82 mph and am getting there faster than the stock gearing. A stock Ds comes undergeared from the factory so the top speed stays below 76 mph. A restrictive rev limiter is also installed for the same reason. That is why the DS gets the rep of having only a midrange. With a different rev limiter I would pull around 85-87 mph because I am still pinging the rev limiter in fifth gear wide open with the stock one. Not bad for a stock motor is it?

I've ridden with a DS that has a big bore hi comp piston, carbs, cam, ported with vortex cdi. His quad is damned fast, before I got my carbs he was faster than me. I've since upgraded to FCRs and the top end difference is huge now he's got the edge with a cdi but the little bit he got me before my carbs isnt enough to get away from me now. So he's got more mods than me and I'll bet a new york steak that I'll be faster and quicker. Bomb riders seem to be the sensitive ones, remember this is the Yammy forum. Anyhow I'll drag any machine any time. If you're in the Northwest some time I'd be happy to drag race ya for a six pack. Unfortunately you'll be buying....

Don't worry who's buying, we have a fridge with a keg in it! If you ever make it out this way (Buffalo) I'll show you some serious *** kicking riding. We have some great riding over here. I still feel very confident with my DS and will also race anybody. I get a rush out of it. My buddies don't like it so much, because they drive Raptors.

Find the fastest Raptor you can and I'll show you 5 Banshees that will kick it's butt... just facts.
But that doesn't cut it in the Georgia pines, if you ride in open spaces there is nothing like a Banshee. If you ride on 2 track narrow trails get the Rappy. .02
I wont even touch the Rappy/DS thing, we'll just wait for the next FSW!
