Chatterboxes

My wife bought us a set of Chatterboxes. I almost $hit when she told me she spend $500. I have never used them because I strictly ride sand, and I like to hear the sound of my motor. My wife just started riding and she got them so I don't have to keep looking back to make sure she's there. They supposedly have a 5 mile range and seem pretty cool. Any of you use these? How are they and how do they fit in your helmet?

I'll report back after I use them. The best thing about them is that you can hook a mp3 player and cell phone to it. DOn't ask me why you'd want that off road, but I ride a street bike as well with my friends and those would be cool on those San Diego to Vegas runs in the summer.

If my wife got 2 cannondales for $500, I would really $hit.
for those interested, here is what she bought. She got the GMRS x1's. And she got both for around $440.

my brother has a set and he said they worked prety good,
only problem is they were expensive and were exposed to
mud and water sinse they mounted to the side of your helmet..
I think I'm gonna try somthing like this Motorola 2 way
or Midland 2 way Cobra 2 Way it has a hands free headset
option and key pad lock, should do about the same thing,
a lot cheaper than the chatter boxes, plus you I can buy them
at my local walmart bass pro shops and easly return them if they
dont work well

A buddy and myself broke down after trying to use the motorola's with no success and ended up with the 5 mile chatterboxes. They work quite well. In fact, they work pretty damn awesome once you get the VOX activation setting dialed in. The unit being mounted on the side of the helmet seems a bit clumsy at first, but you'll get used to it.
We used them for trail riding and letting each other know wich way to go at intersections ie.. left, right, straight.
We also get into rather detailed converstions at times and that is when you can burn up a set of batteries... they don't use much when just listening, but if you transmit.. they eat 'em up. Thus, we opted to purchase the 12VDC adapters and changed out the battery terminal ends and wired them into a 12VDC plug. This way, the charger is removable and capable of being moved from machine to machine. When we are not riding, they are charging. When we are riding, we don't juse the chargers until we have exhausted battery power.
Try 'em, you'll like 'em. If you get tired of hearing your wife's voice.... just tell her your batteries are low. lol
