Default kodiak cv joint

Hi,

03 kokiak 450,

How do you get the outer cv joint apart to clean and grease? I am replace a torn outer boot, and I would like to clean it since it has been under water before I new the boot was torn.

I have the axle off, but see no way to get the joint seperated.

Thanks.

From what I have read, there is a retaining ring (snap ring) that is covered with grease. just clean the grease, find the ring, use some snap ring pliers to spred it, and the joint should come off. Some have said that you can put the shaft in a vice, and smack the joint with a hammer and it will pop off. I have no direct experience with this, but I have to replace the outer CV on my Wolverine ASAP, and I have been reading up on the subject!

there is a snap ring on the inner joint, but none on the outer. I did try hitting it with a hammer a few times. didn't go too crazy as I have been known to break things in the past. I ended up just flushing out the grease in my parts washer and then working the new grease in.

I would like to know if this is supposed to come apart though, for future reference.

thanks
