what paddle tires for yzf450
#1
my friend is coming over here to ride the oregon dunes over new years. he has a new 450. the only thing done to it is he took the spark arester out. he wants to put the right paddles on the first time. I have a pair of haulers 20x10x9 10 paddle. we just need rims if these will work.is there a better tire for this quad? is 10 paddle to much for a stock 450? thanks

Busmechanic-The new 450 is a very good performer when stock but i would think that ten paddles is a bit much for a totally stock yfz.You could probably get away with using them but i would run higher pressure in them like maybe 5lbs especially since the sand is very wet right now.

We took my friends DMC piped/jetted/airbox modded YFZ out to Glamis on Thanksgiving with a set of borrowed 20X11X10 10 paddle Haulers, and it was definately too much paddle. He couldn't even pull Olds in 3rd. The motor just plain struggled to pull the tires. Even with 10 psi in them. I'd recommend a 7 or 8 paddle Hauler or the new Sand Stars.

thanks guys. after reading some of the other posts on tires, we are thinking that the 8 paddle would be a good choice. one set back right now is rockymountainatv does not have the sand stars in stock. he needs them by new years. so he is just going to have to settle for the haulers. he lives in sun valley ID. so he should be able to get some use out of them at st. anthony.

after alot of research and reading to determine what paddles to get for my YFZ with Glamis as an intended destination.. I decided to get:
20X11X9 Skat Trak Haulers ( 8 paddle) and will mount it on the stock rim
21X7X10 Skat Trak Mohawks and mount on stock rims
If your relatively stock., pipe a/b lid off.. then get the 8 paddle from what I've been told by those that have run the sand.
If your strictly into drags and climbs.. you may want to go to a 21X12X8 (8 paddle) for the back and some buffs up front.
