Yep, You are right..!!!!!!!!!! I didn't find out about this until I was at 20.5 hours on mine and then it just stopped running!!!!
I called my dealer and he asked me how many hours I have on it...I told a little over 20 and he said that I have to bring it in for a $2000.00 motor rebuild !!!!! I couldn't beleive it !!! I paid over $7000.00 for this quad and now I have to rebuild it every 20 hours! The nerve of Yamaha!!!
THe worst part is then the dealer told me I have to change the tires every other ride for them to work properly!!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!! Otherwise it can cause an unsafe riding condition!!
Thanks,
PH

impossible.. that must be BS.. yamaha would have covered your blown motor if it wasnt screwed with... well... (01 rappys) maybe not...
but every 20 hours? i find that very hard to believe... thats every week or 2 for ALOT of people.. it would cost about 300 a month in rebuilds!!!

There has got to be something more to that story!! I would definately try to get warranty on that repair! Plus, I've never had to have an engine rebuilt that often. My old Xplorer 400 2 stroke has 8,000 miles on it and has great compression, but it is due. I raced my predator an entire season. Here is the thing, what caused the seize? Did you open up your airbox and not rejet? I think this machine runs slightly lean from factory to start with. You didn't have a meltdown due to improper jetting did you? And how would it cost $2000, what all did it take with it? If you're gonna try to bring a big scare to the forums, bring the full story, and I am curious to hear it. But in my 8 years of riding experience, I'm not gonna belive that a piston "needs" rings that often, let alone blew because of it...there is a deeper reason there. Sorry about your misfortune poolhustler, but yamaha should back that one unless mods were made, and there was improper jetting, then you will have to bend over and deal with it.

ya i agree..
and i never thought of that 2000$ thing... it musta some how spontaniously combusted and took the whole engine down...

For 2000$, you can rebuild about everything in the motor, trans included. A set of rings runs about 50 bucks. I would say you got hustled poolhustler.
