Default My new Yoshimura TRS Pro - some thoughts.

Ok, I've had a couple quick rides on my Raptor with this new exhaust. It is the newish Tri-Oval TRS Pro full system in all titanium. First, when I first started the thing up, the header turned gold, then purple, them blue. I rode in the snow for a while and the water spray turned the first 6 inches of the header yellow grey, with spots of blue. Very wierd. It seems permenent. The rest of the pipe is purple and the can is unchanged so far.

TEC kit- this is wierd. First if you EVER plan to remove the end cap for ANY REASON, take out the 3 screws BEFORE you ride with this pipe and replace them with M6 CAP screws. Do NOT locktite them. instead get some hi-temp anti-sieze. I WILL say I told you so if you dont. Unless of course you like drilling and easyoutting (is that a word?) stainless screws out. It SUCKED for me. Enuff. The TEC kit stands for tunable end cap. You get 2 inserts that have integrated spark arresters. The larger insert is called the "medium". (I dont know why as there is no "large".) It Does lower the loudness slightly. The tone is still really nice with the medium insert in. Yoshi claims the medium insert reduces the loudness from 101db to >96db. I doubt it. Maybe 98-99db at best. The small insert makes a HUGE difference in the loudness. It is barely louder than stock. It also sounds TERRIBLE with the small TEC insert. The stock exhaust sounds better IMO.

Performance- I jetted to use the spark arrestor only. I run a K&N Powerlid. It probably flows about the same as a cut up lid. Jetting was good at 160/165

No TEC insert- Unfortunately we have LOTS of snow here so its hard to get a good sense of performance. I did a couple of quick runs in the street but the neighborhood isnt too font of race pipes blowing through at 60mph I was very pleased with the torque and midrange. This pipe style claims to boost that area more than thier oval style and I think they hit it.
The medium TEC insert really worked well for reshaping the powerband. I noticed a good bit more torque down low, a HUGE middle and the top was barely effected, just maybe a touch flatter. I WILL run this insert on the tight woods trails.
The small insert in flattened out the top. It pulls at high rpms about the same as the stocker. The middle was way stronger than the stocker even with this silly insert in. The bottom was unusable but I am sure it was a jetting issue. I did not rejet and I noticed a off idle stumble. Once past the stumble it pulls pretty strong on the bottom so if I was going to use the small quiet insert often, I would jet for it. I think even with the small insert, this pipe does lots better than the stock one.

All in all, I think this pipe can be almost anything I need it to be and I'm pretty happy. Oh and it looks GREAT.

Congrat's on the new pipe. Yoshi makes good pipes....I prefer Alba though.....and as for the blue headers and stuff....you can get blue remover for pipes and headers and clean that up, but it don't take long for it to return.

Well you can clean it with the blue remover...and it will do it again. My Alba headers are blue back to where the muffler part connects. You can get it from Dennis Kirk, they have several kinds.

So how much did this pipe run...and what came with it....jet's....filter???

The pipe was near 800 retail. Another 40 for the TEC kit. I paid a little less It did not come with jets, filter or ANYTHING. Thats ok since I already had all that stuff. You'd think for 800 bones they could give me the big 13" sticker for my truck.
