Default Raptor vs. Banshee in dunes

What would be the best quad to get for a rider weighing 250 lbs. a Raptor or Banshee? I'm interested in dune riding only. What's the difference in performance between the two? Two stroke vs. four stroke pro's and con's between the two?

Theres more than enough info on this forum about that. I recommend doing a search.

Both are excellent dune machines. I'd go with whichever best suits your riding style.

Banshee - better sand slinger, but only likes wide open throttle, needs to be clutched or shifted regularly.

Raptor - better cruiser, easily lugged in lower RPM's. Less tiring to ride.

Both will take you anywhere you want to go in the dunes, and both respond well to modifications.

From a purely dune perspective: Wheel speed = fun. Banshees are born and bred for sand. They make RPMs RIGHT NOW. If I was going to have a "dune only" quad it would be a Banshee without question. Since I ride in numerous areas and conditions (dunes, rocks, trails, occasional desert "race") I picked a Raptor as my money pit.

I've spent time on both (about the same level of mods) and like either but the Banshees just seem to throw sand better......

My 02 cents.....

Banshee... just because thats what they do best at... nothing can touch a modded banshee in the dunes... but the rappy would do good too... so its just ur preference 2 stroke or 4?

I wouldn't say that. Mod for mod, Raptor's and Banshee's are pretty even. Stock versus stock. Piped versus piped. 686 versus 370. And 727 versus 420. In all forms, they are pretty even. When it comes to all out performance though, the edge definately goes to the Banshee.

Because I weigh 250 lbs. do you think the 660 would be better than the smaller 2-stroke? As far as maintenance goes is the four stroke going to be less than the two stroke? My wife and I have Honda Rincons for trail riding and I'm interested in Dune riding also, so I was interested in getting another quad just for that.

2 strokes on atvs have small displacements, i like to think of them as four strokes but with douple the displacement they are, and they rev alot faster so either would pull you around fairly good, id lean toward the shee on this one though, but only cuz its dunes =)
