Default Paddles for a Warrior

I have an 03 warrior and need to get some paddles before I head out to the dunes. I need to know from some of you long time warrior riders what kind and size rear paddles work best. I don't want to be spinning out in the sand. I need something that grabs and won't break the bank.

Thanks for your help

ive never done dune riding but ive got a friend that goes every spring to california on his KFX400. he used straight shaped paddles last year but he bought new v-shaped ones this year so theyd grab more in sharp turns.

Actually, for the warrior a little more wheel spin (speed) helps in the soft sand. Too aggressive of a paddle tends to overload a warrior. Dont fool yourself - they are a touch under-powered in the sand but I've had great luck in the dunes with my warrior..

I've found most of ther "V" paddle designs suit a warrior nicely. The cheapest are the GBC Sand Sharks and they work well on a warrior especially if ya drop one tooth on the front sprocket (I think stock is 13T, so go to a 12T). I've used the Sand Tires Unlimited Sand Skate IIs with good results too. I use 20" paddles.

I have the Sand Sharks (20x10x8, I think.) I've had no problems with them at Pismo. I got mine through Rocky Mountain as well. I think it was about $150 for the pair on Douglas .190. Double check the pressure before you ride. I think mine were up about 7lbs. I think I'm running in the 4lb range. I don't know about gearing down...you're already dropping 2" of tire height with the paddles. 1st gear is gone before you know it.

I'm on an '03 Warrior, still stock.

Hey Black and Red your from the Fresno area too. Right on. Were going to Hollister this weekend to rip it up on Saturday. Do you ride with other guys from our area? There are about 5 of us that ride together often. Maybe we can hook up sometime.

Thanks for the help on the tires.

I installed the sand sharks on my wife's warrior and they seem to work real well.

As far as gearing down it seems like my warrior pulls better up the steep hills when it's in 3rd gear and revving fairly high. The smaller spocket +20" tires puts it there. You are correct - 1st is useless. But, with the stock sprocket on the same hill, I have to wrap it out in 2nd gear and cant shift to 3rd (lugs too much) and doesnt seem to produce as much power. Maybe a "fresher" warrior would pull it better. Something to experiment with.....I run a 15T for the normal desert stuff.
