Default Trail Tech lights versus the stocker's(Raptor)

How much better are the Trail Tech's versus the stocker's? Are they worth the coin? Anyone know the weight difference?

The trailtech Torch lights (dont know about the HIDs) are 50W (vs. 35W stock) and they are much brighter. It's a worthwhile upgrade but the problem I have with mine is their reliability. I think TT has worked out the bugs (with anti-vibe mounts and new connectors) but the bulbs are still an issue- IMO. They use bulbs that are designed for track lighting in homes and they just dont stand up to the vibration.

I've found that a $75 pair of Hella 500s and a light bar works far better - for me (so far).

I havent weighed them compared to the stockers but I'll bet they are about the same overall -The are compact but fairly heavy - I cant imagine there would be much of an advantage either way.

Since I'm roughly 230lbs. The weight really isn't a concern. I was just curious. I'm more interested in their output and reliability.

If you mostly dune, the new versions should work OK (just bring spare bulbs, home depot carries them) If ya do lots of harsh desert stuff then I'd avoid them.

I would not buy the TT torchlights. I bought the handlebar mounted ones like 5 months ago and they sucked. The screws would fall out of the connector, the wires where rubbing inside the housing and causing sparks inside, the bulbs would burn out and that would blow a fuse on my rappy. I spoke with Kelly @ TT and she told me to return them for a full refund and at that point I upgraded to HIDs. They work great but I would avoid using their wiring harness, it sucks, the switch works great but the harness is junk. One thing is for sure, TT has GREAT customer service and that is hard to find now a days, thats why eventhough Ive had bad experiences with one of their products, I still recommend them. I hope this helps!

PS
Torchlights = BAD
HIDs= GOOOOOOOOOOOODDDDDDD

counterpoint:
I have had my TT torch lights for about two years now. I have NEVER had ANY problems at all!

You can get 35w, 50w, or even 75w bulbs for them. I have one pencil 35 and one flood 35 and they light up better than what my stockers did. You can run the 50s with the stock stator, which I planned to do when my bulbs went out....but they never did. I think you need a higher out put stator to run the 75w bulbs.

For the price I think its a good buy, but I have heard people that have had some problems like caliraptor is talking about.
