Raptor mystery
#1
My Raptor quit and won't start, won't even pop. It was idling and running just fine with the parking brake set. I gave it a little gas before taking off the brake (which it doesn't like because there's a low rpm rev limiter enacted when the brake is set) and it went blub, blub dead. An' dat was it.
I covered all the bases, new plug, drained gas added new, tried starter fluid, kept it inside all night so it was warm all the way through. Nothing. I am all the way stumped. I have spark w/the plug grounded against the engine, and I have fuel. It should go.
Yep, I checked the kill switch.
I'm taking it in unless somebody can give me a good idea. Mrs. Shady (her bike) is telling me to stay off of it now. Help!!!

My raptor once quit and wouldn't start. The reason: carbs blew off the boots, which gave the same symptoms as you described. The only difference in our stories is that mine happened when I was starting it not when it was running. Something to look into, though.

Yeah that happened to my rapter and would happen every once on a while. Go rid of the stock clamps and put some .70cent hose clamps on it and thats all she rote till the tranny went out.

Excellent....I was thinking the same thing until Busted's post as I schrolled down. NOW, you need too take the carbs off and CLOSELY inspect the boots for small tears that may have occurred when the carbs blew off. You are lean on the idle circuit.....turn the idle adjustment screws out (counterclockwise) at least a turn and see if the problem still exists. You really need too use a vacuum guage and adjust for peak vacuum too clear up no problem. I would up going with 27.5 pilots and using a vacuum guage as described earlier. I have detailed posts concerning this procedure on these forums in the past. Later bud.

Thanks. Believe me, Ive had a little more than two brews tonight, so neglect any misspellings. I am a little curious on this situation. This has only happened to me once...while the machine was completely stock. As I recall, the motor seemed flooded or the choke was on when the start buttion was pressed. Pissed me off quite a bit, but never occured since that time - or even after I added the Yoshi slip on, Pro Flow K&N, and Jet kit. So WTF? Bad Luck? Might I add, starter and tranny still going strong and not about to give up.

A little flooded and you got a back pop. That's a lot like my situation with the brake on and giving gas where it won't accept rpm increase, it made a pop and that was it. You know, when you start those things they say never pump the gas, you could even bust up the piston on a big kick back.
22 oz. Pilsener glass full of Shady Deep Amber staring at me right now. Mmmm, there's a sip. Real good tonight.
