Almost bought a banshee last night...The guyt said it was a 98 but it was really rough!... The only markings I could find were the engine #. It said 8GG 440882. Someone in the yamaha parts dept said they thought that the first 8 was really a 3 and that I was mistaken. I was sure but now I m not.. How can one tell what year it is by the engine #? Help! Where are the other identifiers on the bike? It was devoid of ANY stickers anywhere!

On the frame on the left side below the engine there should be the vin #. With the Vin # you will beable to find out the year.

well if the plastic is all scratched up, then you know its original, because why would someone buy new plastic but not take care of the rest of the quad?

I think the 96's had red/black or red/yellow, but Im not sure about the white combos.

On this site you can see the banshees all the way back to 96. http://www.atving.com/tmpl/manuf/manuf.cfm
