need help with an ailing raptor
#1
okay guys, I really need your help here. I have a buddy with a raptor set up exactly like mine. (see sig.) The bike idles fine but when in the upper rpm's it cuts out. We adjusted the valves and no luck. All the valves seemed a little loose but they are all within specs now as well as we can tell. We lined up the marks for TDC and set according to the manual. We have great power at lower rpm's but about half way through each gear it will cut out. Perhaps a carb problem? Battery and everything else checks out. Any help would be appreciated. Dont be afraid to post, we are willing to try anything at this point. Thanks guys.

we are going to pull the carbs apart tomorrow and see if anything is obvious. Mine did the same thing in the midrange and moving the needle position worked. Thanks DragRaptor727, for reminding me of that. It would be pretty easy to check before pulling the carbs out. Any other ideas out there?

Sounds like a clogged main jet, or clogged air filter. It could also be a faulty coil, not being able to provide spark at the higher RPM's. Good luck!

Could be the choke sticking and leading too a rich condition. His plug color should be almost identical too yours. I always pick up a couple cans of brake fluid for cleaning carbs.

hey guys, looks like it was the airfilter. We both use K&N and it appears maybe we put too much oil on it. That is a guess but we took the air filter off, cleaned out the airbox, and ran it up and down the street. Ran like a striped-a$$ ape through all rpm ranges. Thanks for all the input, I knew someone on here would come up with the answer. Thanks again.
