Ive never ridden a griz, but I know that sp500's are one tough rig. the only weakness that I can think of is the wheel bearings, but if you take them apart and clean&grease them they should be fine. the other thing is the stock tube out of the belt drive

Are you all of sudden having a liking to Polaris now? Before you were insulting them, now you are considering them as a purchase?? Wow, I knew the guys were good, but not that good! Well anywho, both are fine machines but for the ultimate mudding, the Sportsman has true 4wd and IRS. Good luck in whatever you choose!

i think that both machines being stock the sp500 is a better mudder and has a plusher ride. i own a grizzly and personally think its better in all other categories. i ride that thing hard. i cross rivers, jump sand dunes, put it through ungodly mud holes on a daily basis. i get so much air that once when i landed the bulb inside the light fell out and busted and that is the only problem i have ever had. if you are looking for a hard core mudder, go with the sp. if you want to jump hills, scream around corners (i have the bike sideways around every turn in gravel roads) pull your friends around on a sled, AND go mudding, get the grizz

the grizzly is a very tough bike you don't have to hunt for fifty grease fitting's you don't have to do any bearing maint. yamaha also offer's a three year warrenty if you choose to get it .it's a waste of $ because you wouldn't use it.it is also faster!!!!!

the sp 500 might be a better mudder for a couple of months but after that it will be tearing up everytime u go mudriding
so the grizzly is better

Go with the Grizzly, more power, its more reliable, and should last a LOT longer.

I would look at dealer location and service way before worrying about which one will last longer. I have owned Yamaha they don't last or hold up any better then the two Polaris's I have owned.

Go for the Grizzly, like a rock, they are. Very reliable.
Less universal Joints
2 Greese fittings
More power
More reliable
No sensors for the 4wd. Mud and water don't mix with computer components. At first they maybe ok but wait 5-10 years.
Grizzly is Cheaper too, need i say more.
Hope this helps
