YFZ red sticker in CA!!??
#1
I friend of mine just bought a YFZ, and he was told no green sticker. I thought he was pulling my leg. Can anyone who lives in CA that has had there YFZ for more than 1 week confirm whether you get a red or a green sticker??
I did a search and found no other topic, so if I missed it do not go crazy.

· Red Stickers will be issued to all 2003 model year and newer OHVs that are not certified to California OHV emission standards. Owners will be issued a Red Sticker if the vehicle is a 2003 model year or newer vehicle, and there is a “C” or “3” in the eighth digit of the vehicle’s VIN.

There was a topic about this floating around, maybe not here. I think I remember the problem being the highly motivated DMV people that mistook the YFZ for YZF. The topic said once you took your paperwork down to the DMV and showed them the error of their ways they would hand over a green sticker. The buzzkill of that scenario is that you have to go to the DMV. I highly recommend calling them and scheduling an appoinment, pretty sweet to just walk in past everybody and take care of your business and head out before their line moves.
Good luck to you friend and report back the results.

Yes I had the same problem and took my quad back and told them I didnt want the RED sticker so they gave me a full refund and I got another brand new bike. I wouldnt have purchased the bike if they told you it was going to be a RED sticker.
Especially if you live in CA.

I can bet you that they mistakenly purchased a RED sticker quad and pawned it off to your friend. I can bet on that one because they know that they cant sell a RED sticker 4 stroke in CA.
At least my dealer noticed that too and took it back. They had know idea it was a RED sticker.

I was issued a Red sticker for my YFZ in error by the DMV. I had to go down there and work it out (educate them). Just as Billsner's post says check the Vin number as he noted. I'll bet it's in error. The only other way I could see it being Red Sticker is if: the ATV is an out of state or "it was destined for an out of state dealer, and then ended up being delivered here in Calif. In those cases the Vin number probably will have a 3 or a C in the 8th Digit.
