Blaster Horsepower???
#1
Anyone know the horsepower of a stock Blaster?? I have seen on FMF's website that it is only 12hp. That seems way low
compared to other 200 2-strokes. (kdx200 =34hp on same site) even 250 4-strokes listed as 15-18hp.

I think yamaha rates them at about 17 horse, which is pretty weak, but those little machines can be turned into 400ex and banshee eaters, just check out anybody running a hollywood dirt blaster engine, I heard they have blasters crankin out near 40 horse

They cant breathe enough, I've heard the stock intakes/reed blocks etc..... are pitiful for a motor that size. A 200 2 stroke should be capable of about 30-35 usable before you have to things that rob serious reliability depending on how much you have to work with. Im talking about serious porting and thorough reworking though, with pipe and intake crap just expect minor increases. Yamaha rates them at 17 you say? well yamaha rates them all at the crank, so 12rwhp sounds about reasonable.

i hear everyone talking about taking off the air box on a blaster for more power, isnt that kinda dangerous for the machine itself, isnt there a company out there that will make a custom box which is bigger and also has a bigger filter??

I had a raptor before my 450 and the pipe glowed orange at dark. I am not really concerned about it, i think it is cool that it does it. And everybody i ride with(they have raptor,z400,yfz450) pipe turns the same color at dark too.

Yea recently I was running a fully ported and stroked Hollywood Dirt motor and stock Banshess were no problem. Piped Banshees however were more of a problem but I could stay with in 1 quad length them at all times. Also, the Blaster is 19-20 hp at the crank and 15-16hp at the rear wheel. When open these suckers up though it turns them into a whole different animal.
