Default Bigger carb on a Blaster

Does a bigger carb make much difference on a Blaster? My friends has a Bill's pipe but otherwise stock. I've got a 32mm carb of a 85 LT250. Would it be worth the effort? He wants to put in a YZ490 motor and likely will eventually but Ive allready got the carb so it would just be some work.

look at getting a big bore kit and making it a 240, then maybe you'll need the new carb

He has been looking at the big bore kits. He decided to look for a YZ490 to put in it instead. It would likely cost similar all said and done and would have a bunch more power than any big bore Blaster motor. We're just considering putting the carb on because I’ve already got it.

He's a big guy for a Blaster (190-200lb). I tell him just to move up to a Banshee but he likes to do things the long hard way. He also wants to keep up with me and is going to need more than a 240 kit to do that.

85 lt250's came with a 34mm mikuni, not a 32mm, anyway, it won't fit the stock intake of a blaster and will bog the stock blaster porting beyond what jetting can cure, a yz490 is not a good idea either because it is not a crankshaft counter balanced engine and will vibrate beyond comfort, and the overly small frame and wheelbase of the blaster with a potent powerplant like the 490 engine will be impossible to ride in tight conditions, not to mention a twisted swingarm and frame, and you would be surprised what a 240 kit properly done will keep up with and beat.

According to the manual the 85 models had 32mm and the 86-92 had 34mm carbs. This carb came off an 85, it measures 32mm and I can't think of any reason why someone would put on a smaller carb.

The rest of your post is pretty much what I told him. He doesn’t seem to be too concerned about handling though. I think he just wants to be real fast in a drag race and have a neat sleeper quad. I’ve heard others that have put in a YZ490 that were not displeased overall.

my clymer manual lists all the lt250's equipped with 34mm mikuni's with just different jetting, hmm, maybe its wrong

Maybe we have a different edition. Mine covers only 85-88 models so it’s an older one. I checked it again to be sure I was not confused and measured the carb again with a better tape measure that shows mm. Definitely a 32.
