galdwin trails

the trails in michigan change from year to year. i'll tell ya what i know from last year though!
i know they closed some more at the end of last year, so hopefully they didn't touch them.
the south loop is roughly 26 miles long. it has always been whooped filled, with little streight away's. i try to avoid that trail, witch is easy if you dont cross the main enterance road at the parking lot.
the north trail is quite nice. its 56 miles long, and has small elevation changes. runes through tight trails on overlooks, and even has a small sand pit area. ( maybe an achre or 2) alot of connecting trails there, not well marked, so use a gps, or cumpass, or you'll head through it again and again. alot of bikes run this trail, mainly becouse of the stream of open area's. quite smooth for the most part, along with small muddy area's for us 4x4 boys. it is open enough to run on a 4x4 in under 2 hours though. not too bad though, couse you can run it again, or take linking trails to hit other area's. ( if they havent closed them. )
if you go right at the sign, instead of left( into the trail head) and follow that road down about 3/4 of a mile, you can camp right on the trail. you will be surrounded by sand there, along with a great open feild with super trails all looping( my kids ride ther on gocarts) i can get my camper in ther, witch is a 33 footer, without too much problem( it has a lift kit on it for this)
if i were grading trails, i would give it a c+ or b- . not real large, but a nice view, area's to go open for a ways, able to camp, and sand. just keep off the south loop, unless you love whoops!
hope i helped!

that is a real small spot of sand there. that is when your on the trail, you pass through it. at that area, you are VARY near the camping area! you cross a road to get to that sand pit area, right. well, once you pass the road, take the open field area, ( maybe 100 yards or so) and go right( east) go about 1000 ft to the top of the small hill. that is where heaven begins for a banchee guy! it is open sand with hills in about 1 to 2 achres. ( guys in glamis are laughing, lol) a few good jumps, and so on. if you want to risk it, you can take the road left, once you get to it. go down the road and around the corner, then look left. ( not far down the road, maybe 1/8 mile) i have never had an issue with the dnr there, exept for once. he talked to me, while my sons were riding on there gocarts. he said it wasn't legal, but thanks me for being there. he said it is safer for them there, than on the trails, and told me to ride here anytime. there are no posts saying dont drive here, and alot of trails. campers use the suppounding areas daily.
i never even park in the trail head anymore. when i see the sign driving down the road from I 75, ( bout 10 miles or so) instead of turning left into the trail head, i just turn right. go down until it hooks to the left, and park there. MUCH BETTER there, and most park there. THAT is where you will find alot more riding area. trails linking all over, sand all over, tuning areas for you quad, and a great place to light a camp fire and chill with some friends!
by the way, when you get off I 75 at exit 190, go to the mobil. great solection of jerkey there!
