I've driven the 350 Warrior, it has nice power. But after you drive the 400ex (400cc DOHC compared to 350cc SOHC)...then you can't really go back.

 

The 400ex is single ohc. A 250 or 300 4-stroke setup right would do just as good as the current blaster engine, but it would need to be along the lines of the mojave engine(dohc, liquid cooled). The warrior is being dropped and replaced by the 350 raptor, but the specs are VERY similar.

 

its still gonna be awhile befor the rappy 350 comes out cuz there not releasing till 2005 (said the yammaha dealer here) and i really look forward to seeing it ride but i think 2 stroke is still gonna be out for a while seeing how many people are still buying shees and blasters

 

that would be cool to see a modern 4-stroke engine in a blaster frame. look at the mojave, its a 249cc 4-valve DOHC 4-stroke, as heavy as it is...it will give a blaster a very good run for its money. im not saying the mojave is faster..(i have a blaster, i know lol). but if yama built a 250 4-stroke similar to what the mojave is but uptated, in a frame as light and agile as the blasters......than the result could be lots of fun [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img] .

 

Well your dealer got some bad info or he flat out made it up because the raptor 350 will be in showrooms in april of 2004.

2 strokers are only likely to die out completely if they are in fact banned in 06 as so many have predicted, or a major advance in 4 stroke tech that would make using a 2 stroke engine look foolish. Yamaha payed for the tooling cost of the banshee and blaster a long time ago, they are big money makers for the company. Because of that and the fact that both bikes compete very well in thier classes I would not think it in Yamaha's best interest to rock the boat more than they need to.

 

Is it possiable to just ban 2 strokes completley. I dont think it will go over very well if people who have just bought 02' 03' 04' and 05' bikes will be to happy. These bikes are still practly brand new. I cant see them just coming out and saying that everyone who has these cant use them because they will have to many people saying that they should have stoped making them and then years down the raod ban them. I know i wouldnt be to happy if i went out and spent the 6g's or so on a banshee and then next year find out i cant do anything with it. It would basically be just because whos gonna buy it off me if they cant use it either.

 

That's not what's going on. It's that manufacturers cannot make 2-strokes or 2-stroke parts anymore...

 

why was the ban put into place? i never heard anything about it til now

 

well if u have a 2 stroke now u should probably keep it cuz u wont be able to buy them new anymore so people will prolly pay alot just too get one

 

Wrong. It's an emissions deal. Make a 2-stroke clean, and you can still build em all you like. The tech is out there. But will Yamaha (or other manufacturers) step up to the plate, and open the wallet for licensing or R&D other methods?

The 2-stroke as most of us know it, is horrendous on the environment. I'd hazard a guess most of the emissions come from putting the lube oil in the fuel. Good way to lube the motor, but not very clean. For 2-strokes to be clean, they won't be the "simple" machines we now see. Think direct fuel injection. So you'll start to need batteries in them for some kind of fuel pump or other way to pressurize the fuel.
