Went hare scramble racing on Sunday. The mud was too much for regular goggles.
I need a set of the rolloff type goggles. Which kind or brand should I get?
What's the difference between them all?

I like my Smith but if you can try them on and see what you like. I bought mine at RockyMountainATV seemed to have a good price.

So dutchman wasnt full of snow then, seems like its either ice or mud.

How you do there? what class?

As far as goggles go I have not owned a pair of scott that I liked, and its the foam thats the biggest issue but there are others that just seem better made etc.

I prefer the progrip but the only way to get them with a rolloff and not a tear off is to purchase a certain smith lense with the roll offs etc, and smith has some good stuff too.

If I remember right it was either rockymoutain, dennis kirk or bobs that had roll offs on clearence for about 30+

I have the Smith also but I'm not convinced they are the cat's *** in all conditions. If they get wet under the rolloff film, they will not roll and pulling the string harder just breaks it. Only a little water causes the film to really stick to the goggle lens. I even put the mud guards on the top and bottom of the film but that didn't keep the water out all the time. I'm switching to tear offs this season

The Dutchmen racing was ice and mud. Where the sun could hit the track, it was mud.
In the shade it was ice. Some spots were real slick. Lap 5 and 6 were slippery because the temp
and the sun was going down making the track freeze up more. I wonder how much studded
tires would have helped because I heard you lost most of the studs after 2 laps.
Anyway, I ran the Vet class, 6th place.
I think tearoffs might be better but I heard alot of places don't allow them because of the litter
they make.

Tear offs are good too, and thats what I have used with the progrip goggles, but not all places allow tearoffs and they too can get water between the layers if its sloppy enough.

I have not tried this yet but have been thinking of just doing what I have on the jetski, and thats to polish the lens with rainX. Works great on the water but not sure if there is enough water for it to work on the quad etc.

Has anyone done this?

Haven't tried the Rain-X. Sounds like a good idea though. It can't hurt.

I race in the GNCC series. Last year was probably the wettest and muddiest in the history of XC racing. I used to use Pro Grip goggles with tear offs. I thought they were pretty good, but I would go through all my tear offs in one lap in a muddy race. I now use Scott roll-offs and I will NEVER go back to tear-offs. I love the Scott goggles and have only gotten water under the film once - when racing in the rain, and even then it was not that bad. The fit and finish is great and the foam has held up really well. I feel confident recommending the Scott roll offs to anyone.

Sounds like a plan to me. I have a few pairs of the Thor goggles. They are really Scott 89X goggles
with the Thor name on them. Dennis Kirk sells a replacement lense for the Scott 89X goggle with the roll-offs on the lens for $37. Gonna give them a try. Thanks.
See you at the GNCC race in Rausch creek in May.

You are not the first one to say something like that on scott.

What I still need to figure is if they have better made goggles than what is popular as the display items I have tried in the past as these have not been imnpressive to me and the frames are too flexible and the foam not as strong or comfortable as the others I have found.

Is there a certain model you are reffering to?
