Default Is all octane the same?

I was told to run 100+ octane in my raptor. Is there a difference between race fuel that is 104 octane and just adding octane boost to premium?

Someone told me that the race gas will burn cooler, but other folks claim that it is the same

You must be running a 11.5:1 piston if they told you to run race gas. But really, you should just have to run a mix of race gas and 93 pump on a 11:1 Wiseco.

remember when using race gas the USABLE octane level is 2-3 points lower than what it may actually claim to be.

As far a octane goes; no. If you can get product XYZ and dump it in pump gas, and it gives you the proper octane for your engine then it won't detonate. Thats all that octane does for you.

Now if your asking the question is there a difference in power, cooling effect and a ton of other things, then yes. The race gas is better. The race gas is blended to give a person all of these things. A pump gas with an octane additive is not.

The real question is, do you need "race gas"? 11:1 is right "there" on premium pump gas. Depending on things like timing, cam, combustion chamber shape, bore/stroke combo, air temp and many other things will determine if your engine will detonate on premium pump gas.

The best advice I can give you learn to read plugs. Put some premium in and see what the plugs say. If it shows signs of detonation, then put in 10% race gas/ 4 gallons of pump gas. Keep going up until no more detonation shows and then put in 5 more %. This will keep you out of trouble and won't break you bank account!!!

If your a real cheap *** like me, and just want to stay away from detonation you can go down to the local hardware store and buy a 5er of toluene. Do the same procedure as above and substitute the toluene for the race gas

Once you get the mix down, write it down. That way you can look like mister chemist in your garage!!!
