Default yfz or raptor

2 strokes, rule of thumb is 1.75:1. You look stupid comparing 2 strokes and 4 strokes based on displacement.

To stop the flaming...

YFZ, quicker when stock, will beat raptor in 300' drag by a few lengths, but it will be close with similar riders.

Raptor, very small top speed advantage, but who cares? How many of us race at top speed on stock machines anyway? Change the gearing and the whole picture changes.

Now, the statement made earlier about aftermarket...
Start getting into a mod for mod war and the Raptor will totally destroy a YFZ. The Raptor can be built into a real monster.....high compression 686, 727's, and 770's will beat the bored YFZ's.
That has nothing to do with this statement...
Yamaha660r I think I would know which one has quicker acceleration and who was talking about a mod war big deal if you can make a raptor faster and quicker than a yfz with more mods. I would hope a quad that has been out for 3 years would have more mods than a quad that has been out for not even a year. And I also think I know a raptor can be made into a "real monster"
The comment being made is that when you do similar modifications to each bike, say a pipe and filter jetted, the raptor will respond more favorably. Just like a set of pipes on a shee will provide a higher performance increase than on a 4 stroke. The number of aftermarket products availible has nothing to do with this. Raptor gains 8-12+ hp with a pipe and filter. Yfz gains about half that. That is the point.

The raptor is more suited for trails due to its abundant low end power, reverse, and skinnier stance. Not to mention the more comfortable seat and softer ride. The yfz is obviously built for mx and other race use. It is wider, lower, higer revving, has a stiffer suspension and seat, and can be outfitted with a kickstart to remove the electric start. Also a lack of reverse to save weight, which is 50 or so lbs lower than the raptor.

The only reason a 400ex should be able to beat any raptor would be either rider error or a very well built hi-performance 400ex with all the trimmings. Anything else is just false.

As for the top end rebuild every 30 hours, that is highly suspect. I have never heard of that, and neither have any yfz owners i have talked to. Thats even too often for most 2 stroke engines, by quite a bit on a stock machine.
