Default Drag question...

WHat about a set of automotive DRAG RACING shocks? Maybe for a VW or something? They come in various adjustments...for example "90-10's" rise FAST and come down much slower. 90-10's are very popular for automotive drag racers...helps keep weight on the rear tires. Finding a short set that will bolt up would save serious CASH. I have been out of auto dragging a while and don't have any good contacts. Maybe start by calling and checking with automotive speed shops for suggestions. Jegs or Summit come too mind too...they should have specs on the shocks...'cause they do have them.

Default Drag question...

I have a set of Works shocks I made for what you are talking about. They were a tripple rate Steeler for a 400ex. The guy (a buddy of mine) snapped on of the shafts when he broke his frame, so I got them from him real cheap since he was going to upgrade. All I did was cut the shaft shorter, about 3.5" if I remember right, then rethreaded the shaft and put it back together. Of course I did this to both of them. I played with the springs, trying a combination of all three springs it had on it. I ended up with the on long spring and one short spring and the pre load almost all the way up. They might not be the best thing, but they work VERY well for me. They lower my bike a LOT and don't have much travel. They aren't as light as Marvins or struts, but it the track is rough it does give you some suspension.

Here is a picture showing how much lower my Raptor is compared to two stock ones. I also have 1" shorter tires, but look at the differance in how close the front of the frame is to the ground.

Do you have a picture of your struts? Where did you get them? I need some nice looking ones, but don't want to pay an arm and a leg for any. I could make some, but they might not look as good as bought ones.

Default Drag question...

Thanks for all the input! Marvin e-mailed me back last night I think I may try to give him a call. If I can get the full set for about 500 then I think I may go with them. I may hit jegs and see what they have but I don't want something that is going to weigh a ton though.

Ward... I thought about trying that but, by the time I would buy and modify a set of works I would have around 500 or more in them unless I could find a set for CHEAP. As for my struts I bought a section of hallow alluminum pipe and cut and drilled it to fit, then bolted them on. They have held up great so far and are supper light. Looks may not be the best but they work great and shaved a few tenths off my time.

Thanks again for input!

Default Drag question...

I rode a Raptor with shaws and was very surprised at the ride. Far stiffer than stock, no doubt, but no where near the stiffness of struts. Maybe he had lower pressure in them or something, but I was surprised.
