Default Why remove heelguards?

Just a general question. Is it solely for weight saving? I noticed that some of the pros remove them while other do not. And if it is a weight issue, how much does it really loose? Maybe 5-6lbs. Just curious.

I removed the ones on the raptor solely cuz I didn't like the way they looked, but I put em back on the first time A stick came up and smacked my ankle. I doubt it really saves much weight.

5-6 pounds is a lot by my standards.

then again, my quad is sickeningly light.

By removing them it makes your bike look alot better because it causes the rear wheels to not look like they are so close to the front (gives the same look to some extent that a extended swingarm does.)

Definetely looks, I love the way the Raptor and really any quad looks without them. I can understand people that don't want to take them off because of the fear of getting your leg caught in the tire, but with the kind of riding I do, I'm not too worried about it. Oh, and as for the $40 fender brackets, did someone say Zip Ties?

5-6 pounds. Not to mention the 5-6 pounds of caked on mud they will collect.

Does removing the heelguards make the fenders weaker? Just seems like the less mount points you supply the weaker you make the fender?

Some designs catch a lot of wind and some can hold a lot of mud.
