would like to up grade the suspension on my 2003 wolverine. I'm a recreational trail rider and sometimes like to ride fairly aggressive- ditches-ruts small jumps etc. It would be nice to be a little plusher and easier on my old bones. I really can,t justify spending the big bucks for elka- ohlin- Axis etc. but could see forking out the $320.00 for the works steelers if they would make a significant difference. Would I be glad I put these on my ride. Has anyone put works on their wolverine. And how about the rear shock. Any input or info would be appreciated.-wolverine -some mods-airbox-pipe-jetting.I weigh about 175. Are they worth it?

 

Could really use some input on the works dual-rate steelers. Anyone?

 

They are certainly an upgrade over stock, but in my experience they are not plush.

Let me know what you find out on the works deal. I'm in about the same shape you are. Would like a it to be better on my old bones too, but don't want to spend money if its not going to work.

 

Having run Works Steelers ( dual rate on front, single rate on rear) for the last couple of seasons, and also having old bones ( I'll be 43 this year ), I can say they are worth the money. Plush is not the exact description of the ride, but not having it bottom out on whoops, hard landings, and sudden impacts on the trail makes for a much easier ride, you have much more control in the rutts, the rough spots that used to jar me around with the stock set up, you ride over with just a few bounces. I also recommend a PEP or other brand steering stabilizer, when I went to bigger ,wider tires, every rutt seemed to yank the bars around, now it feels like power steering, and much easier on the back and shoulders after a long ride on a rough trail. And to top it all off, my son STILL can't keep up with me !! although, at 13, he is learning fast, and soon will be showing me a thing or two, I imagine !!

 

95Wolv, thanks for the information. What single rate shock are you using for the rear? I think there are different ones if I'm not mistaken. Ultra-cross etc. I'm pretty sure about the fronts, but still not sure about the Works rear.

 

The rear on mine is just the non resivior,I know they come in the Quad Star and Ultracross, the Ultracross is the resivior type, I think, it's been a while, so I'm not real sure, so I'm pretty sure mine is the Quad Star. I got a real good deal from Retro-Cycle in Genoa City, Wisconsin, on the set of front and back.

Do you have phone # or e-mail for Retro Cycle? Would it be crazy to do only front shocks and not back? Want to spend money the right way?

 

try esp@genevaonline.com, and ask about a package price on the front and back, don't know about now, but when I bought mine, it was pretty reasonable, 720 for all 3, spent the extra 20 bucks to get the threaded adjustable shocks, otherwise you have to pull the shock and use a spring clamp to change the rebound on the shocks.

 

Did a little research and found that most dealers sell the at steelers dual rate for around $329. I didn't know it but they now offer triple rate for the wolverine for #369. I found this at Atvgosoca may want to check out the triples.
