Default Need help building a 686

Trying to build this one myself. Have it all ripped down and bored. Any suggestions from what you guys have done. I have ported this head myself and I took out the horrible factory machining on the intake side. Has anyone else noticed this? Where the seat meets the head the head protrudes at least a 1/8 in!!! Also opened up my exhaust side to the gasket and sanded it to a mirror like polish. How did you guys install the piston? Book says use your hand and clamp the rings together, tried with no success. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Did you gap the rings? they'll be hard or impossible to put in if you didn't and won't be good for the cylinder either.

I havent. Is this necessary? It is a 12:1 JE kit. How do you file them?

You MUST gap the rings. A file will do the job.

Got the rings gapped and it fit alot better. What about having to torque the head again after it has been running awhile? What are the pros and cons of the Edelbrock single against the FCR's????? Has anyone had any luck with the dynojet kits on the 686? I have been told that they do not go large enough to feed the beast. Thanks for the help guys.

P.S. Big warning to those who want more performance for any quad. Do not buy degree keys!!!! I dont know if it was the brand ( Vito's Performance ) , but both of mine have broken plus my buddies broke. Went to take them out and they came out in two pieces and the flywheel was shifted about another 10 degrees.

Thanks for the advice.

It's cool your building a 686 on your LE, cause I am to.

Hopefully this bump will get your new questions answered.

Has anyone had any luck with the dynojet kits on the 686? You'll have a hard time getting the stock carbs to work good but not because of the dynojet kit.

I put those things in both my kids' Blasters. One of them took a crap on the first ride, and retarded the timing, and shot so much raw fuel out the exhaust it totally discolored and uglified a brand new FMF pipe. REALLY ticked me off. It came out like you say in pieces.
