Default 97 Wolverine power loss

I just recently purchased a 97 worlverine, and the first few times I rode it, it had all kinds of power. Then, after a couple of days, it was as if there is a governor on it. It runs great, just no power above about 1/2 throttle. I have looked at the fiche for the carb, and am wondering if that would be the logical first place to look? As I said, it starts and idles great, and has good power when starting out, but no rpm's. Thanks

Will it rev up in neutral? Any other symptoms? Black smoke, backfiring, blubbering, bogging, or missing? Is the air filter plugged, spark plug in good shape and fairly new?Is it worse in higher gears? Is it better if you take off the air box lid for a test ride?

It will rev in neutral. It will attain higher speeds if you have enough road, or are going downhill. No black smoke sputtering, etc. new plug, clean filter, and some power at lower throttle. just no high speed power. If i get off the trail in the snow, it will bog, and not spin at all. it just will "hang" there.

It's part of the parking brake lever on the left side of your handlebars. It is designed to partly disable your motor in the event of you leaving the brake on. Sometimes this switch sticks in the on position, causing a misfire (rev limiter). Your options are to spray it down with a penetrant, and work it back and forth, perhaps it will unstick, or disconnect the wires to it. These wires are under the handlebars and plastic on the left side, just trace the wires down a foot or so. Be forewarned, if you disconnect this switch, and then forget to release the parking brake, you will burn up the rear brakes. This from experience.

I'll try that out in the morning and see if that helps. Thanks for the input!

Im not convinced its the rev limiter. It will rev in neutral, and it will get up to speed if given enough room.
How is the spark? Bright blue and strong?
Doesnt sound like its lean, usually itll miss and breakup, if lean..
Try these too things to see if youre lean or rich. First, try a run without the air box lid on, thatll lean it out, if it runs better, dig into the carb and look for high float level, plugged passages, or too big of main jet. Second, try turning on the choke, while its doggin, if it runs better, its too lean. Im betting its too rich.
Check the choke, it may be sticking on. And check valve clearance. Could even be a bum spark plug, if you have another one, try it.

My guess would be that you have a blocked vacumn passage that is not allowing the slide to lift. You'll have to remove the carb and make sure the fuel is all drained out. Take you're shop vac and put it on the engine side of the carb and open the throttle by hand via the linkage. Look in the air box end and see if the slide moves up. Good luck.
