It sounds like something in the carb is sticking until you give it gas. Take the carb apart and clean it good and inspect to make sure there is nothing wrong with it. It doesnt sound like an air leak, but take starter fluid and spray it around the intake boots, if the idle raises or lowers you have an air leak, but I highly doubt thats what it is.

the hot and cold thing is over my head, but the popping sound is something i MIGHT know about. i dont know for sure, but mine does the same thing and i think it happens when you're burning too much oil, mine does it when i start up without shaking the bike to help remix the oil and gas in the tank that has separated, because the oil will sink and your gas will be too rich until you shake it up while riding. if i shake the bike around and mix it back up, its ok and i dont have that problem. try that and see if it makes a difference.

Carbs are out of sync or the pilot jet is clogged.

My thoughts exactly,
and the cold air thing is from the cylinder not firing and just cycling throw the stroke with the help of the cylinder that is firing.
