well, my friend is giving me for free a 1979-1989ish yz 80 and supposedly all it needs is a new pisten and some rings and it will be all set to go. should i take it and how easy is it to do a rebuild. the head is off of it and it don't look to bad in shape? let me know

 

Anything given to you is going to be a good deal. Take the cylinder and piston to a machine shop for cycles and see what they tell you.
