KUZ28's YFZ450 update (GYTR piston kit installed)
#1
well.... picked up the quad on thursday and took it out on saturday. Yee F'N HAA! i was concerned with the YFZ's nature to stay planted on all fours. sure you can wheely it. but it takes technique. i'm not the best when it comes to wheelys. did'nt have too...i rode a raptor. on the MX track there really isn't to much need to loft the front end up. but in the trails and GNCC...i'll need to get it over obstacles.
anyways, i rode in Plymouth MA. what a dream compared to my neck of the woods. there were no rocks...alot of loose pack and sand. reminded me alot of southwick. the dealer added the GYTR aluminum pipe, the high Comp piston and jetted.
i was popping the clutch to get the front end up prior to the change...and if your not in the pwer band of the gear. that does'nt help always. now i just blip the throttle and pull back on the bars. the mid range was increased noticably as well as the top end. thats were i felt most of the gains. the lowend doesn't feel like ive gained much.
this and i know it going to feel even better when i get back on solid ground where i can hook up. i may be able to notice the low end more in diffrent conditions.
i am very pleased with my purchase. GYT-R kit gets a two thumbs up from KUZ28. thats a full Fonzie folks.

Sounds like a Raptor now. I raced a 450 yesterday and I constantly handed him his ****, he was stock and I have all my mods. I thought they would be quicker stock and was actually concerned about racing one, but my old girl didnt let me down Congrats on mods!

I know..i still got more performance to squeze outa this rocket...i've been tracking my gains as i add them. on the Raptor, i just bought everything i needed and Bolted it on. so i never really understood what gave me the best gains.
this time around
1) road the quad completely stock for 6 weeks
2) removed Baffle on week 7
3) added foam filter end of week 7
4) experimented with lid...without lid and added fuel mixture screw. week 8
5) end of week eight i added pipe, piston and jets.
6) will experiment with lid again including an aftermarket lid with outwears material.
when i get back from running the GNCC steele creek N.Carolina race. i'll add the Cam mod.
