I have a 1998 banshee and it will do about 71-72. This was clocked next to a truck on pavment. I also took my manuel with the gear ratios and figued about 7000 for max rpm /sixth gear ratio/ chain & sproket ration then mutiplied by the circumfance of my tire. Now I had the ft/min traveled. I divided this number by 5280 and mutiplied by 60 to get MPH. Using this method i got 71 mph. ANother interesting application of this is you can use the same formula for all the gears and RPMs between idle and redline. I was susprised to see how far the gears overlap.

The pretty consistant number for a stock banshee is in the low 70's MPH. The 89 and older were geared to do about 77 MPH. The banshees speeds taken on the drag strip in DW most of them had aftermarket pipes and most pipes raise the RMPs a little and thus getting more top end.

Seriously does ir really even matter. What percent of the time do most people spend in WOT 6th. How many people actully have a chance to hit WOT 6th. Just about the only place you can do it is on some straight backroad.

One a side note I got pulled over for riding the banshee on the road by the sheriff and they were really cool. The only reason they stopped me is someone called in and they had to check it out. they told me as long as they didn't recieve any complaints and I wasn't out of control they would look the other way. Pretty Cool considering I passed them going about 71 MPH

I have an 88 trx 250R and I was clocked at 64 mph. It has been ported and polished and has an Fmf pipe and silencer. Top speed isn't really important It is the talent of the rider.

I had a feeling that there might be a Polaris owner getting a bit jealous of the speeds mentioned here. It must really be awful to know that no matter what you do to a Polaris, there will be some joker on his Banshee that will dust you. Hey, I'm smiling as I write this, so it's not meant to be insulting, just a little ribbing, that's all.

It wouldn't matter that to me if my Banshee went only 60 mph, as long as it got to that speed in a real hurry. Acceleration is why I bought the Banshee in the first place.

warpt13,
I think your R will go faster than 64. My friend had his 400EX up to 67 and his 250R would dust it.
