You need to shift sooner. With your mods you are just getting to the rev limiter sooner. But changing the gearing can make a big difference. Depends on what you are doing.

Does the rev limiter affect anything to make it faster or somthing or is it specifically for reverse?

It raises the rev limit from 9k to get more hp from modified machines. That said, you shouldnt really be hitting the rev limiter and still making power unless you have got an extreme cam in there with a moderate compression piston and very high end pipe. Most raptors start dropping off peak by 7500-8000 with aftermarket cams.

My Craycraft signature 686 (minus the SS valves) would hammer the rev limiter. It had a Stage 2 cam. I never dyno'd it so I don't know exactly where it made peak HP but it was still stretching my arms when the rev limiter kicked in. I had 18" rear tires and 12/40 sprockets, geared for max acceleration over short distances.

I rode a stock bore drag Raptor with a Stage 2 cam and 13/40 gears with 20" rear tires. Because it took longer to rev, I could feel the power drop slightly before the rev limiter kicked in.

It's a delicate tuning balance between max acceleration vs. the number of times you have to shift.
