My Rappy was running a bit hot today, the temp light came on a couple times at Sand Lake and I decided to pull the thermostat to be safe, I refilled the radiator and put a hot lead to the fan so it would run full time and no more problems. I believe it was spittting excessively through the overflow but when I checked the oil there was no contamination adn no signs of it in the exhaust. My jetting is good and the plug looked a dark brown. The oil was fresh as well. Other than maybe a defective thermostat what else should I be concerned with? There was sufficient oil flow to the top as I checked that possibility too. It wasnt very warm only in the 70s or so today. Thanks.

I would think it is your Fan sensor. Did it kick in when it got hot? Or come on when you direct wired it.

 

Also might be your thermostat, try replacing it and see if the problems solved.

 

A buddy of mines 02' had similar problems to yours, and it was his fan sensor that had failed and caused it to over heat until he direct wired it.

 

This is just a suggestion, try to run some engine ice to prevent this, ive seen it makes the motor run a lot cooler during ride time.

I was having the same problems with my 01' Banshee RIP, At the track I would notice the sweet sweet smell of coolant, I could also see the residue on the nice chrome gnarly pipes, I mixed up some Engine Ice and never had the problem again. Great stuff. Probley run it in the Raptor, have to see., by the way great FORUM.

 

Re torque the head bolts or get a new head gasket,tighten the head bolts first ..thats what happen to mine and it worked after..

overflow botle would fill and liquid wouldent leak back to the radiator ,I thought it was the cap and changed it but the head bolts is what worked..

 

1BAD, Mine does exactly what you describe. I've retightend to bolts once and it quit. about 10-12 hrs of riding later it started again. New head gasket is what the problem is now.
