Default YFZ450 Problems

Now that this quad has been out awhile, I am wondering what the major problems have been? Currently I am wavering between the Yamaha and Honda, and would like to know what people have encountered. I know that when the Raptor came out, it spit out transmissions, and with a family now, I can not afford to get something that will eat me in breakdown costs. I am leaning toward the Yamaha, but no matter what brand we prefer, it is a proven fact Hondas usually have a better track record with breakdowns. Thanks for the help and advice in advance!

Once you install bolt ons the power of the YFZ very impressive. I have heard the Honda has a very good ride, but I like power and speed much better. JMO

The YFZ is proven to be faster, and handle better stock. Also it is a second year model, if there was going to be some hidden falure it would have already showed its ugly head. The Honda is an unproven first year bike, regardless of Honda's rep. The Dealer I bought my bike from sells both Yamaha and Honda and said they had a few of the TRX 450 customers bring their bikes back pissed off because they were getting smoked by stock Yamaha's. The TRX looks nice, but I would wait a year befor buying one.....my two cents.

My bad, Guess they are still 2 months from being a second year bike.
I keep my lights on Jdog, just a little safer, have had no battery problems. Only problems Ive had is the damn thing keeps ripping my arms out of the socket, and its hard to shift with my feet dangling behind the bike.

these are the problems I know of ...... of course these are not going to happen to all yfz's .........just things that have been noted to have been frequint......
How many of those problems did Jerry have on his YFZ?

I only know of a few TRUE problems that some have had on the YFZ..

--- leaking water pump seal that has been updated..
--- lean jetting stock from the factory on early models.. that has now been changed with the needle being dropped down to the 4th clip from 3rd at the factory.

battery problems were a result of poor dealer prep,, not charging prior to delivery
sticky shifting.. only occured during break in.. not permanent
oil plug popping out. due ot the engine being filled with too much oil
the other issues with frame, swing-arm and a-arms are 1 out of 10,000..maybe
