Default problems with my banshee

i havent ridden my banshee in a few months and when i tried riding yesterday i put brand new spark plugs in and the pipe keeps backfiring when ever i accelerate and when ever i stopped my coolant would drip onto my pipes and start smoking like crazy. could this mean i have water in my gas or is it overheating???

I cant tell you if jetting is for sure your problem but if it is you will need to make some adjustments. It is probably still pretty chilly in michigan (maybe 30-40F). Colder tempatures produce a leaner condition. If you have other jets change to a bigger one. If not just try moving the needle clips down a clip or two.

running lean would make my coolant flow over? because its when ever i stop that it starts smoking, it was only on my right pipe when i looked down but it might have already burned off my left one but im not sure. and i dont reallly know how to adjust my jetting, i have a manual but its not very detailed, and its just starting to warm up like 55 but yesterday it was like 40.

Running lean will cause your cylinders and pistons to heat up more therefore making your coolant hotter and overflow. Liquid expands when it is heated up and you have overflow hoses to prevent from building up too much pressure inside your cooling system. Running hot is dangerous because then you run the risk of things melting and failing inside your motor. I could be wrong but I think banshee cylinders are plated with nicasil and if you tear your cylinders up its gonna be $$$$$$$$$ to have them replated. Even if they arent plated it will be a very expensive fix either way. What do the electrodes on your plugs look like? If they are white you are definately running lean and you need to richen (add more fuel) your jetting immediately. Plugs should be a light tan or brownish color and both be the same color. Plug color is not an exact way to tell if you have the proper jetting but it will get you pretty close. What type of manual do you have? What mods do you have (pipe, air filter, etc.)? Jetting the stock carbs on a banshee shouldnt be too difficult because I think they are the same as a blaster carb. If this is the case search the forums for instructions on jetting. Somebody probably has pics posted somewhere. If you cant find anything(which I doubt) pm me and I will take pictures of the pages in my blaster manual and mail them to you. Clymer makes a greatly detailed manual. You should be able to pick one up at your local shop for about $25.

it could be your water pump gear the one that is plastic.i have a 98 shee and mine kept overheating and i tryed everything and the plastic water pump gear threads were striped, the gear wasn't evening moving so my water wasn't going through the engine. i would check that first

you could have bad gas in it .i run maxium 927 oil mixed with gas , 32 to 1 or 16oz to 4 gallons

man im not a mechanic but maybe bad gas, but all i can say is riding ur quad or at least lettin them run at least every week can prevent many problems. you gotta think of your machines as hot chicks and run them often so they dont seize up

Man you are running too lean.In that kinda weather we run 300-310 main jets and 30 pilots with the needles in the stock position. This is with pipes and open air filters.Check your plugs. If they are very light brown or even white it is too lean.Banshee cylinders are not nicasiled. You just bore em' and go on.I'm assuming you're running the stock carbs.
