Maybe a slower twist would help, the vortex is too fast IMO and too sensitive.

Did you use your stock throttle Ward?

Ward is Ward660r.
I know some just like a thumb rather than a twist. Growing up on dirt bikes I could not adapt to the thumb throttle.

Yamaha uses the dual carb setup for better throttle response. Like sixsixt said, it can be too sensative. If it is, you will have a tough time maintaining speed at less than wot and tougher times riding trails and hillclimbs.

High performance, no. But the aftermarket ones are suposed to be more commfortable and easier to push.

I've had experience w/ both the Terry Cable, and HPD units. Both top notch billet pieces. Match them up with some frequent doses of Tri-flow spray, and you'll have all the thumb throttle smoothness you can handle.
