Im lookin to buy a 2000 or newer yamaha wolverine i was wonderin if anyone could tell me how fast they go,how goo they are in the mud, and how reliable they are. I currently ride a honda recon and its bullet proof so i like reliability. Any info would be appreciated.

from what people told me when i ask almost the same question was. yes they are very reliable. they are ok in mud but they are not really geared for it. I dont know about the speed, but it has the same top end as the warrior so it probley goes 40-55.
I have heard enough good things about them to make me plan to buy one after this summer when I have some money. good luck.

I've been driving my Wolverine since I bought i new in 95, ran the living daylights out of it, bored it a little after it started to get a little tired after a few thousand hard trail miles, love the handling, adding a Warn 424 gives you a sporty 2wd feeling. stock top speed is 50 - 60. Mud is ok if you stay if 1st gear, it is geared a little high for more top end, I have heard of people putting Big Bear gears in for more low end and better acceleration. You can also drill the clutch weights to raise the rpms with bigger tires so it won't bog in the mud. All over, a very good do-it- all quad, won't be the most powerful on the trail, but it is one of the most fun mid size 4x4 out there.

Idle pm me if your interested in my wolvy, i Live in PA got some mods, check profile.. They are great machines. Mine runs great. If your really a mud monster you will want to regear it. But you an do anythihng qith a wolverine. I would say its the best sport/ut out there. Plus the 424 kit is great 4x4/2x4 on camand kit. I think its the firt thing you should get for a wolverine

I just bought mine a few weeks ago and it is everything that Yamaha claims it to be. It jumps and wheelies great. Sure it is no full sport bike but that not what it was built for. The only complaint that I have is the mud protection. It will get you muddy driving through damp grass. The same goes for the engine. Even under normal riding conditions the front tires will throw mud all over the engine.

It is true that it is a bit high geared and many times I will try to downshift to find that I was already in first. This would be a reason not to put taller tires on it.

I believe that it is a "best of both worlds" bike. If you want a sport and a utility and don't want to buy both get a Wolverine

Honest no clutch popping. Level ground, dead stop, with stock bike. I weigh about 160lbs. It just requires a little trick requiring body english. I could probably even do it with your tires without modding the engine. I have no doubt that your bike will do it with the mods you have.

I actually figured it out watching a guy on a grizzly wheelie.
