Default Raptor burning lots of oil

Hey guys, my buddies 03 Raptor is burning lots of oil. It looks like a damn 2 stroke. We changed the head gasket and inspected everything else. The valves are out a little bit right now, but could this be a ring problem. I'm really surprised how much oil it burns, but still run right. TIA

If it's the rings or a problem with the piston he should be getting a lot of blow-by out of the breather hose.

Could be valve guides, or rings. Being an 03 you'd think it wouldn't have these type of problems though. What color is the smoke? Is it all the time? Just after it's started for a little while? If it's just after start up then goes away after a bit then that is a sign of valve guides leaking by. Oil leaks in when the bike isn't running. All the time would indicate rings etc.

Ok, it blows white smoke on accleration, all the time. Just idoling it doesn't smoke. It has the same compression has my friends 02.

Would the rings let that much oil by with good compression??

Whiteish smoke indicates coolant, bluish darker smoke indicates oil burning. You say you changed the head gasket. Check for water in the oil. Maybe the water pump seal has a leak.

No coolant loss and clean oil.

Got to keep everyone razor sharp. And at least its not my bike. My motor ends on ebay in two hours, so hopefully my problems will be behind me.

Clutcholds, how much oil does the quad burn on a ride? A quart every 4 hours? More? less? Sounds like a water leak to me also, but you say it's not thirsty? If it smokes all the time under acc. it's going to be a ring deal, sorry.

You can have the oil level on full and after an hour of riding it will show empty. So it burns alot, that's why I thought it was a head gasket. Didn't know the rings would allow that much oil by and still run alright.
