Changing sprockets on Raptor, a few questions.
#12
I mostly ride trails and I put a 12T sprocket and you can tell the difference the front end comes up a whole lot easier to get over trees or other things but it does feel like u need another gear on the top end but if i could change it I would probably keep it like I have it now. I would highly recomend it for trail riders.

Perhaps a better idea would be to go to 38 in the rear? That would still give me a increase in accel and not take too much off of the top end.
Would that just be a waste of money and time?

I have an 01 model raptor. I mostly ride trails and gravel roads here in mountainous East Tennessee. I knew right away the raptor was geared to high for my needs. I went down 1 tooth on the front sprocket and up 4 teeth on the rear sprocket. Went ahead and bought a longer chain while I was at it. The change-out was easy. The only thing extra I had to do was shim out my swing arm guard (with washers and longer bolts) to clear the larger sprocket in the back. The results were awesome. Increased acceleration significantly. Wheelies easily without having to sit on the back of the seat. Comes up in 2nd easily. Don't know about top end, I've never found a place to open her up. The raptor will easily tractor in gear (idle with hands off the throttle) on level ground. You will definitely not be sorry if you make these changes.
