RaptorOwner....my fan has too be wired direct too even operate....seems a lot are like that. Did you leave jetting as Sparks set you up or do it yourself? Maybe I am just trying too justify too myself that my rod will be OK...LOL.

I just don't understand how some fail and some don't. The only logical explanation is the jetting like Gary explained. My piston is ceramic coated so that should help disperse heat more uniformly. This is a hard decision...

My fan doesn't work anymore either. I put 12V to the fan itself and it comes on, I guess it's time to check the temp. sending unit(s).

Yes, I was told by Curtis not to mess with it.... LOL!!!

I would be biting my nails if I kept my stock rod in after an upgrade like that..... But thats just me. I am a worrying type of person all ready and dont need to add that to the list

I worry also, and if my rod went, I would be sick to my stomach due to the fact that I would be paying for a bike that is basically useless and sitting in my garage. I guess $400 is rather cheap insurance though. Anybody know where to get the cheapest rod?

OK guys...dug through my old email and found something. The story goes I was looking for an 02 bottom end in good shape too keep from having too mess with my 01 tranny again. This is a response I recieved after sending out a ton of emails looking for one. I know NOTHING about this business. Take this email as you will and don't blame the person providing the info (me) if something goes wrong.

I called the shop and they said a completed job (carillo rod and labor to balance) would run me $325 and the labor alone would be $105. Not a bad price. He said that he mostly does the 400ex, but has done raptors also. He is in North Carolina.

When adding the rod to the crank, is it actually welded to the crank or how does that work to get it balanced. This guy recommended getting the rod welded to the crank.

He must have been meaning welding the crank up. If the rod was welded too the crank the rod would operate go in a 360 degree rotation. What do you get for the $169.99 he quoted me?
