Riding boots...
I don't know what boots you guys wear, but ours (Tech 8s for me and Forma Pros for my wife) have some serious plastic @ the inside of the ankle for support. These boots take a long time to begin to give. Skip all the mumbo jumbo and simply learn to shift - just like I noted a few days ago.

Riding boots...
I just bought the new Gaerne ATV boots. They are about 80% leather with just a little plastic for the shinguard and just above the heal area in the back. They are very comfy and easy to walk around in. You can wear them in camp for most of the day if it suits you with no problems. Oh, and they seem as light as a pair of tennis shoes. Very very light for Cycle boots. Also the sizing is a perfect match. I take a size 12 usa shoe, and the size 12 boot is perfect.

Riding boots...
Wow this post is back. Well, I've used mine a few times and one thing is for sure, I'm better now than when I first tried them out. I was missing shifts like crazy my first time out. I was embarrased a few times when I tried to drag race with them, missing a shift and just reving the heck out of my rappy. I'm still not quite good with them, but I'm sure that will come with time.

Riding boots...
I refused to wear them forever, but then i bought a pair of Fox Trackers on sale when I bought my bike... to keep from hurting myself TOO badly. Had a hard time shifting on my blaster with them at first, but I love them now. I wore mine around the yard alot and to clean or work on my quad. Occasionally if my boots are wet I miss and all you hear is WINNNNNGGGGGG!!!! lol. I even wear them when I ride on the back of my boyfriends raptor. I figure even if I fall off and die i wont have any broken ankles.
